Job Summary:
APR's Engineering Services team oversee and maintain the life cycle of the power generating assets such as gas turbines, reciprocating engines, alternators and auxiliary power plant equipment.
The Field Engineer for Gas Turbine (Mechanical) will perform all GT mechanical field activities in collaboration with a team of field engineers and skilled personnel to maintain and repair mechanical systems such as Air Intake, Engine, Exhaust, fuel, water systems incorporated in power generation packages.
This position is responsible performing on-site activities for new plant installation & commissioning, routine audits, major maintenance and support plant operations for complex troubleshooting. The Field Engineer is expected to provide documentation required for all the activities performed at any given task.
The Field Engineer GT (Mechanical) will report to the Manager of Gas Turbines (Mechanical) and work closely with the GT Instrumentation & Controls, Auxiliaries, Life cycle management, engineering and procurement teams. He will assist the divisional leaders to control budget and improve teams' work quality & efficiency.
Essential Functions / Responsibilities:
• Work with the Project teams on new installs and plant operation team for maintenance to perform GT related activities. Assist Lead engineers to meet the agreed time and budgetary targets.
• Assist site operations teams to resolve complex Mechanical issues and ensure plant availability is maintained.
• Promptly respond to GT Fleet helpdesk (Mechanical). Provide support to plant operations. Travel to sites as necessary to resolve complex engine, turbine and any mechanical package issues.
• Refer to the most current technical bulletins and apply the recommendations in the field.
• Perform equipment audits, generate reports and suggest post audit actions as appropriate
• Perform work that require special skills such as millwright, engine bore-scope, gas turbine hot bolting, hot section service, understand vibration concepts, management of tools reporting and recording etc.
• Assist the Lead Engineers / managers to identify mechanical maintenance requirements.
• Support procurement team to validate and identify the spare parts received to the warehouse
• Assist lead engineers to meet or exceed contractual obligations on GT installs and Services as appropriate.
• Identify unforeseen challenges in the field and find solutions. Promptly report to the Lead engineers. Seek advice and approvals from the Engineering Services leadership as appropriate
• Complete work packages as per APR Engineering services guidelines.
• Make recommendations to develop Engineering services skill set for power generation application. Record and report teams' performance at every filed activity.
• Support divisional goals such as efficiency and quality improvements. Ensure agreed goals are being met at agreed periods of time.
• Strictly follow APR Energy safety policy.
Requirements:
• 12+ years of experience working with aero-derivative gas turbines.
• Experience in working with General Electric LM/TM 2500 Base, Plus, +G4, & P&W FT8 Mobile-pac
• Packaged power experience is required.
• Required experience with gas turbine general architecture and design. Required knowledge of gas turbine support and ancillary systems such as fuel delivery, instrument air and hydraulic supplies.
• Experience with gas turbine mechanical systems such as gas generators, power turbines, millwright experience, specialty tool handling, etc.
• Understanding of associated limits and alarms. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues
Required sufficient specialty training and practice with gas turbine technology. General mechanical engineering Trade certifications required from an accredited organization is required.
Additional Proficiencies Preferred:
• Experience in Siemens, Alstom or any other gas turbine packages will be a definitive added advantage.
• Basic understanding in working ERP accounting systems (i.e., JD Edwards)
• MS Office Suite Experience required
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Experience in external and internal customer interactions.
Travel requirements:
More than 50-75% domestic and/or international travel likely
