Job Summary

APR's Operations team oversee and maintain the life cycle of the power generating assets such as gas turbines, reciprocating engines, alternators and auxiliary power plant equipment. The Manager for Gas Turbine (Mechanical) will lead a team of field engineers and skilled personnel to maintain and repair mechanical systems such as Air Intake, Engine, Exhaust, fuel, water systems incorporated in power generation packages. This position is responsible for new plant installation & commissioning, routine audits, major maintenance and support plant operations for complex troubleshooting. The manager is expected to provide documentation required for assembly, alignment, component stack-out, commissioning & decommissioning, assist design teams on assembly, field piping, testing , equipment upgrades etc. The Manager for Gas Turbine (Mechanical) will report to the Director Maintenance & Reliability Engineering and work closely with the Manager of GT Instrumentation & Controls, Manager of Auxiliary systems, and the Reliability Engineering Manager, as well as the Engineering and Supply Chain departments. He will assist the divisional leaders to control budget and improve teams' work quality & efficiency.

 

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Task field mechanical engineers to perform routine audits and major maintenance.
  • Assign and advise field mechanical engineers and site teams to resolve complex controls issues and ensure plant availability is maintained.
  • Manage GT Fleet (Mechanical). Task mechanical engineers to support plant operations. Deploy teams as necessary to work with operational sites to resolve complex engine, turbine and any mechanical package issues.
  • Ensure timely distribution of current technical bulletins and advise GT mechanical team to implement the recommendations in the field.
  • Guide teams for equipment audits, evaluate reports and recommend post audit actions as appropriate
  • Advising the management on mechanical maintenance requirements and assist in budgeting and forecasting. Execute the work as necessary.
  • Support procurement team to validate the quality of parts & products purchased
  • Establish processes, procedures and control metrics required to ensure an agile, high performance engineering services organization.
  • Actively involved in evaluating new technology & equipment acquisition.
  • Understands and interprets the technical, organizational and process aspects of the project.
  • Support business as a subject matter expert to analyze TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) of newly inducted equipment profiles and make recommendations.
  • Provides technical and project leadership in equipment upgrades to prolong component and or package life-cycle
  • Support reviewing technical agreements and contracts.
  • Recruit competent gas turbine subject matter experts for power generation application. Identify knowledge gaps and propose training requirements. Guide the team, challenge and evaluate the performance on regular basis. Manage performance improvement amongst the team members. Improve efficiency of staff, evaluate and reward or replace.
  • Guide plant operations management team to recruit competent plant operational staff.
  • Implement Strategic time and cost saving improvements within your goals and objectives
  • Create a safe work environment for the team

 

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with the emphasis on mechanical engineering or other equivalent technical study.
  • 12+ years of experience working with aero-derivative gas turbines.
  • Experience in working with General Electric LM/TM 2500 Base, Plus, +G4, & P&W FT8 Mobile-pac .
  • Packaged power experience is required.
  • Experience working in power plants, utility electrical grids.
  • Experience with gas turbine general architecture and design.
  • Required knowledge of gas turbine support and ancillary systems such as fuel delivery, instrument air and hydraulic supplies.
  • Experience in Siemens, Alstom or any other gas turbine packages will be a definitive added advantage.
  • Prior Management Experience
  • 25-50% domestic and/or international travel likely

 

Additional Proficiencies Preferred:

• Understanding of associated limits and alarms. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues • Experience with gas turbine mechanical systems such as gas generators, power turbines, millwright experience, specialty tooling, etc. • Demonstrated proficiency in operation and troubleshooting utilizing bore scopes, temperature and pressure maps, fuel and water delivery system protocols, etc. • Preferred experience in working with ERP accounting systems (i.e. JD Edwards) • MS Office Suite Experience required • Strong oral and written communication skills. • Experience in external and internal customer interactions
