Plant Operations Sr. Manager leads plant operations for several temporary power plants around the world. This individual will be responsible for overseeing contracted availability of power to our customers, a healthy and well-maintained fleet of assets, and the performance of all plant operations teams, customer relationships, corporate reporting, financial management and contract compliance. In addition to the plant operations teams, this person will work closely with corporate operations support. The position will report directly to the Director of Operations and Maintenance.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
• Ensure an HSE culture through the plant operations, keeping the safety of the Plant Ops staff a priority.
• Oversee operations and maintenance for several plants globally ensure that all plants’ assets are well-maintained, and the plants are 100% available to deliver power to our customers.
• Manage the plant managers and O&M teams at each plant assigned. Create and maintain a system of performance management to ensure all team members are performing to the highest expectations. The Sr. Manager, Plant Operations will be responsible for interviewing, hiring and dismissal of employees where necessary.
• Oversee the creation of annual plant budgets. Ensure weekly or monthly plant budget vs. actual financial performance. Identify areas of opportunity for cost reduction.
• Work together with the Process Improvement Manager to:
- build a culture of continuous improvement. Help ensure that plant managers and staff are trained in lean/six-sigma principles. Set targets for cost reductions and efficiency gains through the identification of waste-removal opportunities.
- Implement together with the Process Improvement manager the standardization of processes, performance management, staff scheduling, etc. throughout the region. Ensure those processes and procedures are documented into standardized SOP format and document control system.
- Improve and standardize Key Performance Indicators across the plant operations. KPIs should highlight performance in contracted power availability, labor, safety, fleet status, finance, continuous improvement and more
- Execute training to all Operations Staff in coordination with the different APR departments and SMEs to ensure a successful Operations performance and achieve a Operational Excellence throughout all the sites
• Engage in regular performance reviews and reporting with the operations executives and the corporate operations support team.
• Maintain positive customer relationships. Attend customer meetings where necessary, intervene to resolve invoice disputes, assist in identifying improvement opportunities in customer relationship management. Engage in high-level commercial discussions and negotiations where necessary.
• Identify large-scale purchasing cost-reduction opportunities, including regional parts suppliers, OEM parts support, oil vendors, labor providers, etc.
• Manage and oversee a team, including Human Resources support, accounting and financial reporting, in-country Purchasing, in-country Logistics Coordination and all manner of administrative support.
• Responsible for new operations startups.
• Any other duties assigned by the Plant Operations Director
Requirements:
• 10+ years’ experience in power generation or heavy industrial plant operations preferred.
• Management of large-scale plant operations also preferred. Will consider other industry experience with applicability to power generation (Gas turbines, combined cycle, renewable)
• Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, International Business, Finance,
Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical/Industrial) preferred or Bachelor’s Degree in other relevant Business fields
Education:
• Master’s Degree in Business Administration a plus.
Travel requirements:
25-50% domestic and/or international travel likely
Additional Proficiencies Preferred:
• Must be a leader that is comfortable managing individuals of multiple levels of experience, education and culture.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Computer skills with working knowledge of MS Office applications, such as Word, Excel, Teams and Power Point required.
• Fluency in English required, and competency in other languages preferred
• Must be willing to travel to work in different countries
Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
May require working both inside an office environment & outside with exposure to changing climate conditions. May be require operating machinery. May require considerable physical effort with frequent lifting (up to 50 pounds) & strained work positions. May be required to work beyond normal business hours.
