Assistant Controller

Position Description:

The Assistant Controller will work directly on the financial reporting of Atlas Corp and its wholly owned subsidiaries.  This position works with the department heads, finance operations and the financial planning & analysis teams in the area of financial reporting and forecasting to ensure the highest level of integrity and compliance with all the applicable jurisdictional, regulatory and US GAAP requirements.

 

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the management of the Corporation’s accounting and financial reporting including internal reporting requirements to the board and executive leadership team
  • Responsible for regulatory filings related to the Corporation’s requirements as a Foreign Private Issuer on the New York Stock Exchange and other public filing requirements related to various listed debt securities
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the technical issues facing a corporation that operates in several international jurisdictions
  • Under the direction of the accounting leadership team, operates as a partner to the business by providing them with excellent reporting and analysis that supports effective decision making throughout the organization
  • Ensures effective internal controls are implemented, updated, and followed; also ensures the accuracy of information and safeguards company’s assets
  • Works with auditors to ensure financial statements fairly present the financial position of the corporation and all transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP and statutory requirements
  • Participates and leads finance transformation initiatives to optimize the financial close and reporting processes by leveraging best practices and technology
  • Monitors variance reporting against budget and forecast
  • Monitors, and implements processes to enhance accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting to support corporate strategy and decision making
  • Assists with developing and implementing controls and ensures that all department employees adhere to company policies and procedures
  • Manages a team and communicates expectations to direct reports, manages performance; provides leadership and training to the accounting and finance operations teams
  • Works with internal audit on continuous improvement initiatives and development of best practices
  • Identifies and takes steps to monitor and mitigate risks

 

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business/commerce or MBA
  • CPA designation
  • Minimum five years of experience in an accounting management role
  • Strong leadership, communication, process improvement, and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a team to meet deadlines with the production of high quality, accurate work product
  • Experience with international operations
  • Project management and/or system integration experience
  • Will be required to work outside normal hours to meet deadlines and accommodate time zone differences, such as calls/emails to Asia
