Business Performance Analyst

The Business Performance Analyst will be a critical enabler of this journey—helping to translate the success of these initiatives into measurable outcomes and ensuring we stay on track to achieve our goals. In addition to performance tracking, this role will take ownership of financial visibility within the Technology team—managing budgets, monitoring costs, and reporting on budget-to-actuals. The successful candidate will maintain a clear view of vendor spend, project financials, and overall cost performance, while also supporting the development and measurement of KPIs for projects. 

Furthermore, the role will be responsible for analyzing process mining data related to key transformation end-to-end processes that have been implemented, in order to benchmark outcomes against our defined success criteria and ensure alignment with strategic objectives.

 

Job Responsibilities:

Performance Measurement & Financial Insights

  • Prepare and analyze monthly budget vs. actuals reports and dashboards for Technology departments and projects.
  • Maintain detailed visibility into vendor spend, project costs, and overall departmental expenditures.
  • Act as the primary point of reference for project owners and department leaders within Technology on all matters related to costs, budgets, and financial reporting.
  • Liaise with stakeholders and Finance to align on reporting needs and ensure accuracy.
  • Develop and maintain KPIs to track project performance against business cases and strategic objectives for Transformation initiatives.
  • Review, analyze, and critically challenge departmental budget submissions to ensure accuracy, alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Collaborate with department leads to identify cost-saving opportunities and support effective financial planning.

Executive Reporting & Communication 

  • Provide leadership with clear visibility into project performance, cost trends, and budget-to-actuals through accurate, data-driven analysis.
  • Support leadership with periodic reviews to ensure alignment between financial performance and strategic goals.
  • Deliver ad hoc financial and performance reporting as requested by leadership, ensuring timely and accurate insights for decision-making.

Process Mining Analysis

  • Extract, analyze, and interpret process data from process mining software and other transactional systems to identify bottlenecks, deviations, and measurement against project metrics.
  • Perform root cause analysis on process variations and recommend corrective actions to maintain process integrity.
  • Provide actionable insights and reports to senior leadership on process health, cycle times, and automation benefits arising from Transformation initiatives.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation 

  • Leverage AI-driven analytics and automation tools to enhance decision-making and efficiency.
  • Assist in mapping, documenting, and continuously improving key business and financial processes.
  • Contribute to initiatives that enhance governance and maturity in business process management.
  • Act as a performance liaison with project delivery teams to ensure KPIs and success metrics are embedded in project plans from the start.
  • Continuously engage with project managers and workstream leads to reinforce performance thinking during design, build, and implementation phases.
  • Ensure that measurement frameworks are in place before go-live so value realization can begin immediately post-implementation.

 

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (preference for Finance or Accounting; MIS or Business Analytics is an asset).
  • 1–3 years of experience in financial analysis, budgeting, and cost management, preferably supporting technology or project-based environments.
  • Proven ability to manage departmental budgets, track expenditures, and perform variance analysis.
  • Experience preparing budget-to-actual reports and providing insights to leadership.
  • Strong understanding of vendor cost tracking and financial reporting processes.
  • Expert level Excel for financial modeling and analysis; experience with Power BI or similar tools for visualization and reporting.
  • Ability to develop and monitor KPIs, including financial and operational metrics.
  • Excellent communication skills to present financial insights clearly to senior stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • High adaptability and continuous learning mindset to keep up with emerging technologies.

 

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Professional designation such as CPA or CFA (or actively working toward one) is an asset but not required.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher for process improvement.
  • Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP).

Compensation and Benefits Package:

Seaspan’s total compensation is based on our pay-for-performance philosophy that rewards team members who deliver on and demonstrate our high-performance culture. The compensation range for this position is $84,000 - $105,000 CAD per annum. The exact base salary offered will be commensurate with the incumbent’s experience, job-related skills and knowledge, and internal pay equity.
