The Commercial Operations Intern assists the Commercial Operations Team and provides support to departmental objectives and targets to ensure customer satisfaction for Seaspan customers. Additionally, the Commercial Operations Intern delivers essential administrative and project management support to the Operations Team, contributing directly to the attainment of business objectives.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in maintaining the documentation aligned with charterers’ requirements 

  • Coordinates necessary and relevant data and information to draft routine reports as instructed 

  • Maintains Commercial team records, including creating and organizing files, managing contact databases, handling confidential documentation, and producing regular reports  

  • Supports the Commercial team by coordinating department meetings, including scheduling, sending invitations and reminders, and preparing necessary materials. 

  • Assists in compiling charter recovery documentation and collaborates with Accounts Receivable to monitor real-time payment status, revenue, and current charter standing, providing weekly updates to the Commercial team. 

  • Assists the Commercial Analyst with Ankeri database management, ensuring accurate updates of customer information, key milestones updates to the team, and adherence to verifying the data with the data governance team Supports the team with resolving information and up to date status on operational issues on vessels  

  • Data analysis on Market Information through regular report reading of Alphaliner / Clarkson’s reports and providing a weekly report to the Commercial team   

  • Ensures accurate and organized recordkeeping 

  • Weekly report on project work done and lessons learnt with the Senior Commercial Operations Manager 

 

 Job Requirements:

  • Enrolled in a third or fourth year Bachelor’s degree program 

  • Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment  

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel)  

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with good writing style 

  • Adaptable and self-motivated; keen to learn and assimilates well 

  • Previous studies in shipping business, charter or commercial work along with some experience in a shipping company is helpful 

  • Experience with documentation control, contract management, and/or insurance documents 

 

Compensation:

This is a 4-month temporary full-time role. Seaspan’s compensation is based on our pay-for-performance philosophy that rewards team members who deliver on and demonstrate our high-performance culture. The compensation range for this position is $21-$23/hr. The exact base pay offered will be commensurate with the incumbent’s experience, job-related skills and knowledge, and internal pay equity.
