Seaspan is seeking a highly motivated and driven Intern for a 4-month period to support Corporate Planning & Management, comprising FP&A and Corporate Development. This internship provides hands-on exposure across two important finance functions, supporting a broad range of activities.

 

In supporting FP&A, you will assist in updating the long-term forecast, conducting analysis into company performance, preparing presentation materials for discussion with management, and other projects as needed.

 

In supporting Corporate Development, you will provide support on various projects spanning mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, and financing alternatives. The intern will assist with collecting and analyzing financing structures, capital markets activity, and industry, peer, and customer data, as well as monitoring economic and market trends. The role involves gathering data from multiple sources and supporting the maintenance of financial models and projections at both the deal and corporate level. The intern will also assist in preparing presentations and materials for financing, internal discussions, and external meetings. This is a unique opportunity to gain practical experience and visibility across the full spectrum of corporate finance and FP&A functions.

 

Responsibilities: 

 

  • Assist with monthly and quarterly forecasting, annual budgeting, and variance analysis
  • Perform financial analysis and support the preparation of materials for FP&A and other ad‑hoc initiatives
  • Provide analytical support for corporate and deal‑level financial models, including monitoring key performance indicators, identifying trends, and analyzing variances
  • Develop and maintain process documentation and supporting materials
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to support process improvements and analytical initiatives
  • Assist in preparing presentations and materials for senior management, the board of directors, investors, and lenders
  • Support analysis of international capital markets to evaluate financing and investment opportunities
  • Assist with research, financial modeling, due diligence, and execution activities related to financing initiatives
  • Participate in ad‑hoc financial analyses and strategic projects as needed

 

Job Requirements:

 

  • 2nd or 3rd year university student in Commerce/Business, Economics, Mathematics or Statistics with a strong interest in international business
  • Understanding of financial statements: Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow
  • Self-starter with a strong work ethic who is willing to get involved in multiple projects
  • Well experienced with Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and good writing style
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Periodic overtime to meet deadlines or accommodate time zone differences

 

Compensation:

 

This is a 4-month temporary full-time role. Seaspan’s compensation is based on our pay-for-performance philosophy that rewards team members who deliver on and demonstrate our high-performance culture. The compensation range for this position is $21-$23/hr. The exact base pay offered will be commensurate with the incumbent’s experience, job-related skills and knowledge, and internal pay equity.
