Position Description:
The A&T intern would work with the Fleet Intelligence team to:
- Develop and maintain data pipelines and databases to support data analytics and process automation
- Actively work with Databricks to leverage existing codebases for automated data processing
- Built an understanding of key metrics of the maritime industry to support the business in gaining insights
from fleet operational data - Support the team in developing and maintaining high-quality data products based on the below setup:
o Python-based dashboards within the Plotly-Dash ecosystem
o Data extraction and transformation on SQL and Databricks-based platforms - Usage of and contribution to Fleet Intelligence’ own python library and GitHub repositories
Job Responsibilities:
- Takes responsibility for developing new data pipelines for business-relevant data sources and maintains critical data pipelines and processes, including code review and documentation
- Works with the business to improve and automate existing processes around fleet operational data and to implement new requirements
- Supports the team in standardizing calculations and functions into Fleet Intelligence’ python library
- Supports the team to ensure data pipelines’ reliability and data quality standards are met by internal and external data sources
- Research and outlook for latest technological advancements in Data Science, relating to big data, machine learning and Plotly-Dash
- Support with documentation of new processes, code, and software related to Seaspan’s digitalization and decarbonization strategy
Requirements:
- Bachelor degree in Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science or similar; Master’s degree student
- Good knowledge of Python, basic knowledge of SQL and Databricks/PySpark
- Good understanding of code versioning and CI/CD workflows with GitHub
- Willingness to invest time into generating high-quality data products and code including code documentation, versioning and code review
- Creativity in approaching challenges and proposing innovative solutions with an open-minded attitude
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and perform multi-tasking
- Able to work with energy, showing initiative, resourcefulness and care for detail, neatness, diligence, in a fast-paced environment
- Optional: Maritime Background, experience in the shipping industry
Compensation and Benefits package
Seaspan’s total compensation is based on our pay-for-performance philosophy that rewards team members who deliver on and demonstrate our high-performance culture. The hiring range for this position is $21 - $23 CAD per hour. The exact base salary offered will be commensurate with the incumbent’s experience, job-related skills and knowledge, and internal pay equity.
