Position Description:
The Career Development Officer manages the learning and long term professional development of Company’s seagoing staff. This position will be fully familiar with the promotion criteria for each rank and work closely with the training department and the management teams to ensure promotions are effectively managed in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Job Responsibilities:

Is familiar with the Health, Safety, Environmental Protection and Quality Policy (PL-005), and understands the responsibilities under the Environmental Management System (EMS). In keeping with this and other compliance policies, they understand their duty to report any environmental noncompliance and/or concern to their manager or members of the senior management team (including the highest level of management) either directly or through the open reporting system as per Management System guidelines

Disseminates information on promotion criteria by rank. Using the Career Development Initiativeand other materials developed by the Training Department effectively communicates the company’s promotion criteria, particularly to new joiners and when changes are made

Responds to queries from officers regarding the process and their status and maintains a database of high performing officers recommended for promotion

Identifies training and development needs through appraisal reports and regular consultation with crewing and training superintendents

Assists crewing and training department to solve specific training problems

Works with training and crewing to work through the logistics of promotion and escalates issues related to promotion and sees through to resolution. This may include follow-up on any performance issues that may hinder promotion.

Gathers feedback for continuous improvement of the promotion system and competency onboard

Plans cadets and fifth engineers as per progression plan/seatime

Provides continuous feedback on development & improvement of Competency Management System

Preparing reports on monthly, quarterly and annual basis

Additional reports to be prepared as and when required.

Performs other duties as required
Requirements:
-
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in crewing operation or training in a ship management or crewing company.

Proficient in Microsoft office programs

Excellent planning and organization skills
-
Strong verbal and written communication skills, and good writing style

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to resolve conflict

Effective at developing and leading others

Experience sailing as an officer is an asset.
