Position Description:

Reporting to the Team Lead, Database and Integration, the Database Administrator is responsible for the design, development, and administration/support of existing and new database servers while following business, architectural, and service requirements. This position will have a strong understanding of SQL server, application integration and database related concepts with the ability to read and write complex SQL queries as required.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Proactively enhance existing processes, conforming them to the enterprise architecture.
  • Design, implement, document, and maintain database systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Perform regular database maintenance tasks, including backups, updates, and security protocols.
  • Design and implement ETL processes for efficient data extraction, transformation, and loading, and familiarity with ETL tools.
  • Utilize advanced SQL querying skills for data retrieval, manipulation, and optimization.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot existing application integration packages (Talend)
  • Collaborate with development teams to optimize database design and functionality. 
  • Monitor database performance and troubleshoot issues, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Ensure data security and implement access controls.
  • Evaluate and recommend new database technologies and solutions.
  • Provide technical support to internal teams for database-related issues.
  • Manage both Azure SQL databases and Microsoft SQL Server environments.
  • Design, implement, and maintain SQL Server Agent jobs. 
  • Perform optimizing query tuning for enhanced performance and resource efficiency.
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in SQL databases.
  • Support and manage SQL high availability groups.
  • Support clustered Azure VM. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of proven experience as a DBA.
  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator or in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of database management systems (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server).
  • Strong knowledge in reading and writing complex T-SQL.
  • Proficiency in SQL and database design principles.
  • Experience with database security and access controls.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong data analysis skills with the ability to interpret and derive insights from complex datasets.
  • Experience in designing and implementing ETL processes for efficient data extraction, transformation, and loading.
  • Understanding of database principles and best practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to address issues related to data quality, integrity, and system performance.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in creating and maintaining detailed documentation for database architecture, processes, and configurations.
  • Familiarity with version control systems for managing changes to database structures and code.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with stakeholders and convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Experience with coding language(s) such as Python, C#, or Java.

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Certification in Database Administration (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, MS SQL Database Administrator Certified Professional) or relevant certifications in related field.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based database solutions (e.g., AWS and Azure SQL Database).
  • Familiarity with Modern Data Management Architecture (eg.  Delta Lake).
  • Experience with ETL tools (eg. Talend, Azure Data Factory, SSIS, or Databricks).
  • Knowledge of cloud computing (eg. Snowflake, Actian, or Databricks).
  • Experience with Big Data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
  • Experience with R and DAX is a plus.

Job Demands and/or Physical Requirements:

  • As Seaspan is a global company, occasional work outside of regular office hours may be required.
