Electrical Systems Superintendent

Position Description:

As a member of the Fleet Management team, the Electrical Superintendent is responsible for the provision, coordination, management and delivery of Electrical & Electronic Engineering expertise and operational support to the fleet including guidance to sea staff to ensure equipment availability and reliability.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • To be familiar with the Health, Safety, Environmental Protection and Quality Policy (PL-005) and understands the responsibilities under the Environmental Management System (EMS). In keeping with this and other compliance policies, they understand their duty to report any environmental noncompliance and/or concern to their manager or members either of the senior management team (including the highest level of management) directly or through the open reporting system as per Management System guidelines
  • Assist on technical follow up and closure of incidents, audit items, audit report finding, non-conformance and root cause analysis related to areas of technical expertise in relation to machineries / equipment failures.
  • Provide specialist Electrical and Electronic engineering guidance and support for all equipment/ machineries and systems on board
  • Working effectively with the support teams ashore and work alongside vessel/ Fleet managers to ensure electrical and electronic equipment is available, maintained and repaired in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the planning, preparation of project management for retrofits / upgrades keeping in line with latest company policies and corporate goals.
  • Manage and deliver projects and initiatives as assigned.
  • Continuous review for improvement and implementation of asset management plans within areas of responsibility
  • Monitors function and performance during ship visits and initiates effective problem solving of on-board issues, including technical, quality-assurance, health and safety, commercial or personnel issues
  • Demonstrates commitment to Seaspan’s Maritime Resource Management values
  • Performs other duties as required

 

Requirements:

  • Degree in Electrical engineering or equivalent with at least 2 years of sailing experience as a Electrical officer. 
  • English language skills, both verbal and written, must be effective and suitable for a multi-cultural working environment
  • Strong technical knowledge
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel)

 

Additional/Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working with container ships
  • Education in Electrical and / or Electronic engineering 
  • Previous experience with retrofits / new-builds and dry-dockings preferred

 

Job Demands and Physical Requirements:

  • Regular international travel is required and may be on short notice
  • Must have mobility to conduct vessel inspections
  • Will be required to carry a mobile device and check regularly outside of office hours
  • Must maintain a home internet connection for work outside of office hours
