Position Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled Instructional Designer & Digital Learning Manager to join our team. In this role, you will bridge the gap between technical maritime engineering, safety compliance, and cutting-edge digital education. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying highly interactive, high-retention digital learning modules. Your content will train both shore-based corporate teams and seafarers deployed globally on our vessels.

The ideal candidate understands how adult brains learn and can translate dense technical manuals or safety management systems (SMS) into modern, engaging digital formats optimized for low-bandwidth and offline environments.

We expect the person to be able to liaise with external vendors for quick content development and hence knowledge of industry practices is appreciated.

The position is also expected to actively participate in upgrade of our existing Learning Management System and will be responsible for management of the same.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Content Design & Development: Create interactive e-learning modules, micro-learning assets, video explainers, and simulation-based courses using Articulate 360 (Storyline/Rise) and Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Technical Translation: Collaborate closely with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)—including Marine Superintendents, Chief Engineers, and Safety Managers—to convert complex maritime regulations (IMO, MARPOL), engineering blueprints, and operational workflows into clear training content.
  • Low-Bandwidth Optimization: Architect digital packages (SCORM) specifically designed and compressed for smooth deployment on onboard vessel networks and mobile devices with limited internet connectivity.
  • Multimedia Production: Script, film, record, and edit high-quality instructional videos, animations (using Vyond or After Effects), graphic assets, and audio narration.
  • Assessment & Evaluation: Design rigorous, scenario-based evaluations that measure practical decision-making and compliance competency, bridging digital learning with onboard physical drills.
  • LMS Maintenance: Package and publish courses according to e-learning standards, ensuring seamless tracking, scoring, and data synchronization with our centralized Crewing and HR systems.

Requirements:

  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in instructional design and digital content creation. Experience within maritime, logistics, heavy engineering, aviation, oil & gas, or defense sectors is highly preferred.
  • Instructional Design Mastery: Strong foundation in adult learning theories (ADDIE, SAM, Gagne’s Nine Events) with a proven ability to architect micro-learning frameworks.
  • Authoring Tools: Expert-level proficiency in Articulate 360 (Storyline and Rise) or Adobe Captivate.
  • Multimedia Skills: Hands-on experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator) and animation software like Vyond.
  • Deep understanding of LMS platforms and features
  • Technical & Spatial Literacy: Ability to read technical documentation, process flowcharts, and spatial layouts to build accurate procedural training.
  • Project Management: Excellent consultative soft skills to interview busy SMEs, handle stakeholder feedback loops, and manage multiple course development timelines simultaneously.

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Corporate Training, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with maritime safety frameworks (SMS) and seafaring competence standards.
  • Experience implementing AI-assisted tools for rapid storyboarding, voiceovers, or asset generation.
