Position Description:
This position ensures Seaspan vessels receive the necessary stores and spares in a timely and economical manner. The Senior Global Purchasing Manager manages and leads the purchasing team at SCMIPL, acts as a point of contact between purchasers and the fleet teams, resolves escalated issues and manages logistical challenges. This position is responsible for both supply chain and logistics functions as carried out by the purchasing team.
Job Responsibilities:
• Is familiar with the Health, Safety, Environmental Protection and Quality Policy (PL-005) and understands the responsibilities under the Environmental Management System (EMS). In keeping with this and other compliance policies, they understand their duty to report any environmental noncompliance and/or concern to their manager or
members of the senior management team (including the highest level of management) either directly or through the open reporting system as per Management System guidelines.
• Oversees the purchasing function carried out at SCMIPL. Arranges delivery of stores and spares to vessels and deals with the more difficult or urgent logistics complications.
• Communicates with vendors following defined procedures and the company’s purchasing module to process requests for quotes and issues purchase orders.
• Liaises with company offices and vessels on purchasing matters, particularly critical or escalated items. Communicates with Superintendents, the Procurement team, and Purchasing members to ensure the information is shared with all affected parties.
• Provides management reporting. Reviews information in the company’s database to ensure it accurately reflects purchasing activity and is fully up to date.
• Oversees the third-party freight forwarder services & Logistics Consolidation Budget in liaison with the Category Manager to ensure smooth and effective flow of the goods to the fleet. Resolves the issues that have been
escalated and monitors the KPI in this area. Reports to the Vancouver office as required.
• Accountable for Logistics consolidation budget and ensure the cost for the same is booked in the purchasing module for each movement.
• Audits the purchasers and the systems regularly to ensure full compliance of Company procedures with respect to supply chain and resolves any non-conformities.
• Monitors purchasing activity against timelines and company policies.Ensure necessary follow-up is carried out and is timely.
• Monitors KPIs as they relate to purchasing and measuring performance Reviews procedures and practices and makes suggestions for continuous improvement.
• Manages the purchasing team in Mumbai. Fosters good communication between the purchasing department and technical teams. Ensures efficient supply chain and related logistics are being practiced.
• Takes remedial action where required and resolves issues within the team. Provides training and guidance to team members. Takes ownership of purchasing & Logistics issues and follows them through to resolution.
• Communicates expectations to direct reports, manages performance and provides leadership and support to team members.
• Collaborate with the Sea Sourcing team & with internal stakeholders to understand their needs and requirements and ensure that procurement decisions meet their needs.
• Work with logistics and supply chain teams to ensure timely delivery of goods, as per the laid Logistics procedures.
• Performs other duties as required.
Requirements:
• Five or more years of experience in a shipping company in a purchasing role and a minimum of four years of managing people.
• Proficient in Microsoft office programs
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, and good writing style
• Sound organizational and planning skills
• Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
• Good interpersonal and negotiating skills.
