Position Description:

The Payroll and Benefits Administrator primarily manages the semi-monthly Canadian payroll for Seaspan employees in Vancouver and provides exposure to international payroll processes. This role supports HRIS maintenance, benefits administration, and works closely with other members of the HR team, offering assistance with general administration and corporate governance tasks.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Canadian Payroll: Processes semi-monthly payroll for Seaspan's Canadian employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations.
  • International Payroll Exposure: Collaborates with The Payroll and Benefits Manager to stay informed about international payroll processes, providing support when needed.
  • Benefits Administration: Administers employee benefit programs, enrollments, and updates, ensuring records remain current and accurate.
  • HRIS Maintenance: Maintains employee records in the HRIS, ensuring data integrity and supporting system administration.
  • Data & Reporting: Assists in preparing scheduled and ad-hoc reports by gathering and validating data for payroll, benefits, and HR needs.
  • Compliance & Reconciliation: Conducts reconciliations of benefits, validates T4 and other tax filings, and ensures government remittances and surveys are submitted on time.
  • Onboarding & Offboarding: Supports onboarding and offboarding processes, addressing employee payroll and benefits inquiries.
  • Salary Administration: Assists in drafting annual salary communications and updating HRIS records to reflect salary adjustments.
  • Process Improvement: Participates in developing process documentation for payroll, benefits, and HRIS administration.
  • Team Support: Backs up other HR team members as required.
  • Other Duties: Performs additional duties as needed.

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of working experience in Canadian payroll function and comprehensive knowledge of payroll legislation
  • Experience with ADP WFN is preferred 
  • Strong Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and writing style
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (including Outlook, Word, and Excel) and strong Excel skills
  • Sound organization skills
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task

 

Additional/Desired Qualifications:

  • Certified Payroll Administrator designation or designation in progress 
  • Experience with international payroll or employee base

 

Job Demands and/or Physical Requirements:

  • Periodic overtime to meet deadlines or accommodate time zone differences.

 

Compensation and Benefits package: 

Seaspan’s total compensation is based on our pay-for-performance philosophy that rewards team members who deliver on and demonstrate our high-performance culture. The hiring range for this position is $70,000 - $76,000 CAD per annum. The exact base salary offered will be commensurate with the incumbent’s experience, job-related skills and knowledge, and internal pay equity. In addition to base salary, we offer a competitive total rewards package which includes an annual performance-based bonus, a comprehensive benefits package (extended health, dental, life and disability insurance), retirement savings plan matching and other company-provided rewards.
