Position Description:

The Regional Crewing Representative reports directly to the Vice President, Fleet Personnel. This position will operate from the office of Ceyline Shipping Ltd., our appointed manning agent in Colombo and will ensure responsibility for Seaspan’s crewing operations in Sri Lanka. The purpose of this role is to select and retain the best officers and crew, build and maintain excellent relationships with appointed manning agents, be able to work independently and communicate effectively with our corporate offices in Vancouver and Mumbai.

 

Job Responsibilities:

Human Resources

  • Provide strategic HR leadership to our seafarers in Sri Lanka
  • Drive key HR initiatives for the region including; competence management, progression planning, career development, talent acquisition, compensation and benefits planning, performance management, and employee relations
  • Develop and lead initiatives across regional site to drive employee engagement, retention and a positive work environment
  • Resolve labour related issues, employee illness / injury / disability claims and interpret the collective bargaining agreements
  • Oversee Cadets recruitment and training program

 

Liaise with Manning Agents

  • Work closely with Ceyline Shipping Ltd, our manning agent in the Sri Lanka, to achieve overall business strategy and drive these initiatives from concept to implementation
  • Collaborate with worldwide regional offices and head office departments with respect to sharing information and implementing company policies, practices and guidelines
  • Maintain compliance with local employment legislation

 

Financial Responsibility

  • Prepare and administer budget, forecast expenditures and funding requirements. Analyse and review financial data to develop forecasts and trends

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum two years’ Sailing experience as Chief Engineer / Master
  • Minimum two years’ Shore experience in manning
  • Minimum Five years’ experience in HR marine environment
  • Proven leadership skills with excellent communication and negotiation abilities. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to resolve conflict
  • Good knowledge of English language, both verbal and written, is essential

 

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Qualifications and experience in areas such as ISM auditing, ISPS Code, and Computerized Planned Maintenance and Purchasing Systems
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook
  • Excellent planning and organization skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in all forms
  • Effective at developing and leading others
  • Results oriented

 

Job Demands and/or Physical Requirements:

  • Regular international travel is required, must be willing to travel at short notice
  • A high degree of energy, initiative and self-starter characteristics, capable of working under minimum supervision
  • Availability over mobile devices outside of office hours and maintaining internet access
