Position Description:

The role of Marine Standards Roving Training Superintendent involves ensuring compliance with regulatory and Company standards and providing training and support to onboard staff to improve Safety culture, awareness, navigation standards and evaluate the bridge team performance.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform assigned duties onboard company Vessels, travel from one vessel to other for a set period.
  • Understanding of company Policies and SMS.
  • Training and Development: Design and deliver training programs for crew members, officers, and provide feedback to Senior Maritime Compliance Manager.
  • Ensure training programs cover essential topics such as Safe Navigation, safety procedures, emergency response, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
  • Promote a culture of safety through training, communication, and enforcement of safety policies onboard vessels.
  • Where possible conduct safety drills and exercises to assess the readiness of Ship’s crew for emergencies.
  • Investigate incidents and near-misses.
  • Conduct Navigation assessments of the Master and Navigating officers onboard. Provide feedback to officers on their performance.
  • Conduct mooring training of the Deck officers and crew.
  • Prepare training report in HSEQ module of company’s PMS software and advice concerned team of the report created.
  • Undergo regular training to stay updated with the requirements of the role.
  • Plan and track vessel assignment for duration of travel and liaise with Marine Standards Specialist
  • Perform other duties as required by the Senior Maritime Compliance Manager.

 

Requirements:

  • Master’s Certificate of Competency.
  • Experience in Maritime training operations.
  • Ability to work effectively under the guidance of the Maritime Compliance Manager and collaborate across departments.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Understanding of Marine and HSEQ management principles and their application and working knowledge of relevant industry regulations, procedures, audits, and instructions
  • Good training, demonstration and communication skills.
  • Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel)

 

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as Roving training superintendent’s role within the shipping or maritime industry.
  • Train the Trainer certification from Classification society.
  • Internal auditor Certification in ISM ISPS and MLC.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and good writing style.

 

Job Demands and/or Physical Requirements:

  • Maintain necessary travel document ready.
  • Able to travel on short intervals, join ship and conduct duties onboard.
  • Must maintain a home internet connection for remote work capabilities.
  • Availability via a mobile device outside of office hours.
