Position Description:

The Senior Manager, Total Rewards & HR Systems will oversee Atlas and Seaspan’s global compensation and benefits programs and strategies, and ensure we have the enabling systems to support the growth of our business. The primary focus of this role is on managing the total rewards programs and being the subject matter expert in compensation and benefits related programs.  The role will be integral in the oversight and guidance of the data and analytical work done in support of corporate HR initiatives. 
The Senior Manager, Total Rewards & HR Systems will report directly to the Head of Human Resources. The role will lead and inspire the Total Rewards function, providing subject matter expertise to the global Atlas and Seaspan HR team, including our associates based in Vancouver, India and Hong Kong, and enabling systems (in particular managing and evolving our SuccessFactors platform). Additionally, s/he will be responsible for managing relationships with vendors who provide compensation and benefits related services to Seaspan.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • In partnership with the Head of HR, manage the execution and delivery of Seaspan’s total rewards philosophy, strategy and programs, act as subject matter expert and provide consultative services and expertise on issues and concerns 
  • Provide quantitative and qualitative analysis to support HR, executive and board reporting requests
  • Ensure data integrity of our HCM tools including time-sensitive, seamless upkeep and maintenance of data and acting as the subject matter expert in understanding integration touch points with other systems and process
  • Partner with the business and the Finance department to develop and manage annual headcount and people budget, including periodic (i.e. monthly) headcount run rate reporting for the executive leadership team and headcount cost projection to the Finance department
  • Partners with FP&A to develop annual people budget
  • Stay current with external market factors related to Total Rewards trends and new concepts as it impacts the Atlas and Seaspan programs, contributing new ideas and innovation to ensure the programs remain current and competitive

Compensation: 

  • Lead Seaspan’s annual common-date review process, which includes the planning, administration and communication of the Company’s annual bonus and salary review programs; liaise with Finance to ensure alignment to budgets and key financial metrics
  • Develop and maintain periodic standard and custom reports and provide internal clients with ad-hoc data for use in statistical analysis, strategic planning, internal/external surveys and presentations and reports;
  • Manage the global compensation programs, policies, processes and tools with a view towards creating operational efficiencies and competitive program modifications and improvements
  • Provide counsel to leadership, managers, Human Resources colleagues on pay decisions, policies and guidelines 
  • Conduct compensation market benchmarking analysis; maintain existing salary ranges and ensure current rates are competitive and support recruitment and retention and reward high-performing associates 
  • Collaborate with HR and senior leaders on structure, role changes and related job analysis

Benefits: 

  • Manage Global benefit and retirement programs including health benefits, life, STD, LTD, Retirement Savings Programs, Extended health and dental programs, and ancillary benefits
  • Manage annual benefits renewal process including the evaluation of brokers, insurance providers, plan changes, costing strategy and communication 

HCM & Analytics:

  • Ownership of our internal HCM (SuccessFactors) functionality and operation, as well as managing a roadmap for future feature additions to drive efficiency and Scalability
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of compensation and benefits related data to provide insight to business decisions
  • Support HR projects to achieve our key initiatives and to continuously improve how we achieve outstanding results and support the business
  • Manages all HR related audit requests from external and internal auditors

 

Requirements:

  • A post-secondary diploma / degree in Human Resources or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • CCP (Certified Compensation Professional) and CBP (Certified Benefits Professional) designation or working towards the designation is considered an asset
  • A minimum of 7 years of Human Resources experience with at least 4 years in Total Rewards. This includes progressive experience in compensation, specifically job evaluation, compensation and benefits analysis, and administration and quantitative modeling
  • High degree of computer literacy with advance Excel skills
  • Experience with HCM solutions, especially SAP SuccessFactors is desirable
  • Experience in developing and administering Total Rewards programs in countries other than Canada is desirable, but not essential

 

Additional Desired Qualifications:   

  • Solid writing, communication and presentation skills
  • Well-developed logical, analytical, problem solving skills, with the ability to collect, organize, analyze and disseminate significant amounts of information with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Politically and culturally sensitive, with a high degree of conscientiousness and proven ability to manage sensitive or confidential information
  • Self-starter with the ability to resolve complex issues and problems; able to work with little supervision
     

Job Demands and/or Physical Requirements:

  • Occasional travel may be required
  • Availability via a mobile device outside of office hours

 

Compensation and Benefits package: 

Seaspan’s total compensation is based on our pay-for-performance philosophy that rewards team members who deliver on and demonstrate our high-performance culture. The hiring range for this position is $106,400 - $133,000 CAD per annum. The exact base salary offered will be commensurate with the incumbent’s experience, job-related skills and knowledge, and internal pay equity. In addition to base salary, we offer a competitive total rewards package which includes an annual performance-based bonus, a comprehensive benefits package (extended health, dental, life and disability insurance), retirement savings plan matching and other company-provided rewards.
