Position Description:
Reporting to the VP, IT, the Solutions Architect leads the design and implementation of innovative solutions across data, applications, and integrations, supporting four key teams: Application Support (Corporate and Vessel App Support), Data Services Operations, Data Development, and Project Delivery. The Solutions Architect ensures seamless alignment of IT solutions with organizational goals and strategic initiatives. This role is integral to shaping our data and application landscape while driving efficiency and ensuring compliance across our organization.
Job Responsibilities:
- Define and execute data strategy, governance policies, and application roadmaps
- Lead the design of scalable architectures for cloud and hybrid integrations, ensuring optimal data flow and security
- Evaluate emerging technologies to recommend innovative solutions that drive business value
- Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions
- Guide cross-functional teams in adopting modern integration patterns (e.g., APIs, microservices)
- Maintain strong communication with senior management, providing regular updates on project status and strategic initiatives
- Maintain oversight of system integrations, performance optimization, and risk assessments
- Oversee the implementation and support of vessel and corporate applications and solutions
- Manage services such as Resilio, P2P, and EAI endpoints
- Design solutions using Microsoft technologies including applications, automations, integrations, and data products
- Develop and maintain integration architecture standards, best practices and detailed documentation of architectural designs and decisions
- Facilitate knowledge sharing sessions and training for team members to ensure understanding and alignment
- Implement monitoring tools to track the performance of solutions
- Evaluate and manage relationships with third-party vendors and service providers
- Assist in the preparation and management of the budget for solution architecture projects
- Review artifacts from vendors to ensure alignment with Seaspan architectural standards
- Identify IT-related tools that will improve and support the technology position at Seaspan
- Identify architectural standards and frameworks (e.g., TOGAF) to bring technology alignment to the enterprise
- Provide technical guidance and support to the Application Support teams (Corporate and Vessel App Support), Data Services Operation team, Data Development team, and Project team
- Ensure alignment of technical solutions with business objectives and operational requirements
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
- 7+ years of experience in solutions architecture with a focus on cloud platforms and data governance
- Proven track record in implementing scalable, secure, and cost-effective solutions
- Deep understanding of cloud platforms like Azure. Proven knowledge of designing solutions using modern integration technologies and frameworks in Azure (APIM, ADF, Databricks, Logic Apps, etc), and Talend (preferably)
- Hands-on experience with data modeling, governance tools, and security protocols
- Expertise in modern data integration platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, or Azure Synapse
- Proficiency in programming or scripting for automation and system integration, CI/CD
- Extensive experience in designing and implementing EAI and API solutions.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD pipelines) to streamline development and deployment processes
- Knowledge of various integration patterns and best practices to ensure seamless system interoperability
- Excellent communication skills to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Strong leadership and project management skills
- Business acumen to understand the broader business context and differentiate between effective and ineffective technology solutions
Additional Desired Qualifications:
- Familiarity with frameworks like TOGAF
- Experience with ISO Management Systems
- Formal Quality Systems and Auditing training
- International work experience
- Previous senior managerial role with a ship-management organization (two years or longer)
- Relevant maker's machinery courses
Job Demands and/or Physical Requirements: This is a 24/7 environment and availability via mobile outside of office hours is occasionally required
Compensation and Benefits package:
Seaspan’s total compensation is based on our pay-for-performance philosophy that rewards team members who deliver on and demonstrate our high-performance culture. The hiring range for this position is $110,000 - $125,000 CAD per annum. The exact base salary offered will be commensurate with the incumbent’s experience, job-related skills and knowledge, and internal pay equity. In addition to base salary, we offer a competitive total rewards package which includes an annual performance-based bonus, a comprehensive benefits package (extended health, dental, life and disability insurance), retirement savings plan matching and other company-provided rewards.
