Finance Data Analyst (6-Month Contract)

The Business Intelligence department is responsible for enabling the Enterprise Data & Analytics Strategy across the organization by providing unified approaches, tools, and standards for all facets of Seaspan’s data management and consumption. Within this department, the Finance Intelligence Team work in close partnership with overall finance departments, business units, and technology functions to support data-driven decision-making. 

 

Reporting to the Finance Intelligence Lead, the Analyst will contribute to the development of high-quality, actionable insights through robust data preparation, validation, and visualization. This role is key to ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and usability across finance-related dashboards and reports, enabling the organization to make informed and timely decisions.

 

This is a fully on-site six month contract role based in our Vancouver, BC office. 

 

Job Responsibilities: 

 

  • Prepare and validate financial data from NetSuite, Oracle EPM, Excel trackers, and legacy systems. 

  • Standardize financial definitions, KPIs, and metric calculations across dashboards and reports. 

  • Support documentation and drafting of business requirement documents in collaboration with business leads and BI developers. 

  • Design dashboard mockups and layout suggestions using Power BI, aligning with business stakeholder input. 

  • Provide visualization and UX design guidance to ensure business context is clearly reflected. 

  • Assist in documenting business logic and maintaining data dictionaries to support data governance and long-term maintainability. 

  • Reconcile financial data across multiple systems to ensure accuracy and trust in reporting outputs. 

  • Support user acceptance testing (UAT), including feedback collection, bug tracking, and enhancement request documentation. 

  • Perform ad-hoc data analysis and queries to validate dashboard logic and support business decision-making. 

 

Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or related field. 

  • A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in a relevant area such as Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, Financial Systems support, or Financial Planning & Analysis is preferred. 

  • Foundational understanding of corporate finance concepts, including corporate finance, financial reporting, management reporting and budgeting. 

  • Hands-on experience with Power BI, including Power Query and dashboard design. 

  • Proficiency in SQL for data querying, manipulation, and validation. 

  • Strong visual/UX sensibility and ability to recommend actionable data visualizations. 

  • Proficiency in Python for data analysis and automation; experience with libraries such as pandas, numpy is an asset. Knowledge of scripting for financial modeling, process automation, or API-based data integration is preferred. 

  • High attention to data accuracy and integrity, with an analytical and solution-oriented mindset. 

  • Strong communication and documentation skills, with the ability to liaise between technical and business teams. 

  • Self-starter capable of troubleshooting data issues independently and efficiently. 

  • Experience with financial planning systems or enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems such as NetSuite, Oracle EPM is nice to have.

  • Understanding data modeling concepts and dashboard lifecycle development. 

  • Knowledge of best practices in data governance, documentation, and process automation.

 

Compensation and Benefits: 

 

Seaspan’s total compensation is based on our pay-for-performance philosophy that rewards team members who deliver on and demonstrate our high-performance culture. The hiring range for this position is $70,000 - $90,000 CAD per annum (pro-rated for contract duration). The exact base salary offered will be commensurate with the incumbent’s experience, job-related skills and knowledge, and internal pay equity. This is a contract-based position with an initial term of 6 months, any potential extension will be subject to performance and ongoing project needs.
