The Senior Manager, Fleet IT Operations provides leadership, governance, delivery oversight, and performance accountability for vessel-focused IT operations and initiatives. This role leads the Manager, Fleet IT and the broader Fleet IT team to ensure effective day-to-day operations and execution of vessel-related IT projects. It also maintains clear alignment with Cyber, Infrastructure, Architecture, Service Desk, Application Support, and PMO teams and their respective accountabilities.
Core accountabilities: Accountable for the stable, secure, and efficient operation of vessel IT environments, including service performance, operational oversight of infrastructure and endpoint support, operational patching, monitoring, backup and recovery operations, remote access operational support, access administration, asset lifecycle management, service readiness, budget management, vendor performance, and cost control. The role ensures approved designs and standards are implemented on board, partners with Cyber/Infrastructure/Architecture on design and control requirements, works with Service Desk on support boundaries and escalation paths, coordinates with Application Support for vessel business applications, and leads delivery readiness, transition to support, vessel technology modernization, and newbuild digital technology readiness to ensure new vessels enter service with secure, supportable, and standardized IT capabilities.
This is a full-time on-site position located in our downtown Vancouver, BC office.
Job Responsibilities:
Leadership & Strategy

Lead the global Fleet IT operations function setting priorities, defining service expectations, and driving operational performance across the Fleet IT function.

Oversee service performance, SLA/KPI reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives for vessel IT services.

Act as the senior escalation point for major incidents, service risks, cross-team operational issues, and vendor performance matters.

Lead and develop the Fleet IT management team while ensuring operational compliance with approved company policies, architecture standards, and security controls.

Define clear operating boundaries and collaboration models with Service Desk, Cyber/Infrastructure/Architecture, Application Support, and PMO.

In conjunction with VP, IT, lead the Satcom strategy, Satcom Steerco, vendor relations and cost management.
Operations Management and Financial Performance

Ensure stable, secure, and efficient vessel IT operations across vessel infrastructure, endpoint, and operational technology boundary system environments.

Accountable for Level 3 support, monitoring, incident triage and remediation, operational patching, approved operational security controls, and implementation of approved infrastructure changes. Accountable for Level 1/2 vessel network support

Own operating budgets, vendor performance, lifecycle planning, forecast inputs, and cost optimization initiatives, including asset and service cost transparency.

Own vessel newbuild and takeover budget management and purchase approvals.

Ensure effective coordination with Service Desk for ticket triage, L1/L2 support boundaries, knowledge transfer, and escalation into Marine IT.

Partner with Cyber/Infrastructure/Architecture to implement approved standards, controls, architecture decisions, disaster recovery requirements, and change governance.

Coordinate with Application Support for vessel business application support, non-security updates, and business change readiness.
Project Delivery

Lead cross-functional delivery with internal teams, vendors, and the PMO to implement vessel IT projects and transition solutions into steady-state support.

Lead IT workstreams for vessel newbuild delivery and vessel take-overs, including planning, technical readiness, commissioning support, testing, cutover, and transition to operations.

Coordinate with shipyards, vendors, marine operations, and internal IT teams to ensure newbuild and vessels takeovers are delivered with approved configurations, documented support models, asset registration, and operational service acceptance.

Lead the operational readiness and implementation support for vessel technology projects, including connectivity, infrastructure, endpoint, and onboard systems upgrades.

Coordinate rollout of fleetwide connectivity and digital modernization initiatives to improve operational capability, service resilience, and user experience.

Partner with Cyber/Infrastructure/Architecture, and Application teams to ensure solutions meet approved security, architecture, supportability, and operational requirements.

Oversee vendor delivery, implementation planning, operational change execution, testing, hyper care, and cutover activities for vessel IT projects.

Ensure projects are delivered with clear documentation, training, support readiness, minimal service disruption, and effective handoff to Marine IT operations.
Requirements & Qualifications:

Degree or diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline

10+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, operations roles
-
5+ years of leadership experience managing technical teams in complex operational environments

Experience supporting distributed, remote, or field-based technology environments

Strong knowledge of ITSM processes, including incident, problem, change, and service request management

Experience with enterprise infrastructure, endpoint management, identity/access administration, and operational security controls

Experience managing vendors, service performance, and technology budgets

Proven experience delivering infrastructure/operational technology projects from implementation through transition to support

Experience supporting vessel newbuild, commissioning, or complex operational technology deployment programs is an asset

Experience working in a global environment with 24/7 operations

Experience in maritime, shipping, or other heavy asset / operational industries

Experience with vessel connectivity, onboard systems, or remote operations environments

ServiceNow experience

Familiarity with Microsoft enterprise platforms such as Intune, Active Directory, and related infrastructure technologies

Availability via a mobile device outside of office hours

Compensation and Benefits Package:
Seaspan’s total compensation is based on our pay-for-performance philosophy that rewards team members who deliver on and demonstrate our high-performance culture. The pay range for this position is expected to be $150,000-$165,000 CAD per annum. The exact base salary offered will be commensurate with the incumbent’s experience, job-related skills and knowledge, and internal pay equity.
