The Senior Project Marine Engineer is responsible for researching, developing and implementing various engineering and technology projects for the operating fleet and newbuilds as part of the Fleet Engineering (F/E) function, with particular focus on Asset Development.
Job Responsibilities:
- Is familiar with the Health, Safety, Environmental Protection and Quality Policy (PL-005) and understands the responsibilities under the Environmental Management System (EMS). In keeping with this and other compliance policies, they understand their duty to report any environmental noncompliance and/or concern to their manager or members of the senior management team (including the highest level of management) either directly or through the open reporting system as per Management System guidelines
- Executes investigative studies for various retrofit programs pertaining to Asset Development program, such as:
- Hydrodynamic upgrades
- Main Engine upgrades
- Thermodynamic upgrades
- Collation of the specific feeds related to Electric part and Cargo part
- Maintains and improves the repository of the Asset Development plans and their visibility to Seaspan internal organization as the single source of truth for vessel attributes
- Executes in collaboration with internal stakeholders the development of the digital twins of the machinery spaces on the fleet-wide scale
- Provides project management, including planning, control and reporting for fleet modifications and retrofit programs, where these fall under F/E assignment
- Responsible for the day-to-day management of the assigned engineering projects, including planning, control and reporting of it and provides support to local team during on-board installation phase
- Supports technical research into solutions to comply with upcoming IMO, environmental and local regulations and liaises with cross functional departments on the implementation of these solutions onto vessels and the wider Seaspan organization
- Researches assigned technical issues relating to the current fleet, new builds and future vessels and provides engineering design solutions to resolve known failures
- Responds to technical and general queries and deals with issues regarding day-to-day operations of all the vessels in the Seaspan fleet; possesses good written and verbal communication skills to communicate technical ideas successfully to others
- Maintains current knowledge of technology changes. Schedules meetings with third party vendors; attends conferences and other offsite workshops that are relevant to technology and fleet performance management. Monitors various publications to keep current with industry trends and concerns
- Monitors the products and performance of manufacturers that provide equipment and services to our fleet, as well as the publications to keep current with industry trends and concerns
Requirements:
- BSc or BEng or higher in Marine Engineering
- Minimum 5 years of at-sea marine engineering experience
- Minimum 3 years shore management experience including experience in project management
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Autodesk Fusion
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
- Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, and good writing style
- Experience in shipbuilding programs/projects would be an asset
- Regular international travel is required and may be on short notice
- Will be required to carry a mobile phone and check regularly outside of office hours
- Periodic overtime to meet deadlines or accommodate time zone differences
- Must have mobility to conduct vessel inspections
Compensation and Benefits Package:
Seaspan’s total compensation is based on our pay-for-performance philosophy that rewards team members who deliver on and demonstrate our high-performance culture. The hiring range for this position is $145,000 - $160,000 CAD per annum. The exact base salary offered will be commensurate with the incumbent’s experience, job-related skills and knowledge, and internal pay equity.
