Position Description:

The FP&A team is the center of analytical excellence to drive insightful business decisions and strategy across the organization, and is responsible for creating value and influencing behavior across the business through strategic and financial planning, forecasting, and creative analysis to derive insights. The FP&A Analyst is a continuous learner who is passionate about delving into data to find value and building relationships with key stakeholders to simplify complex information for a broader audience. The individual will provide support to an assigned business unit or section, gaining knowledge and providing deeper insights into the impact of the financial data.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Monitors performance indicators and analytics for assigned business areas, including sensitivity analysis to enable the understanding of the potential outcomes of actions.
  • Flags forecasted or actual variance of key financial and other performance indicators for assigned business unit, flagging and taking pro-active action with business leaders.
  • Contributes to core sections of management reporting including actionable insights on the business’ performance, variance from plan, key drivers and business trends.
  • Conducts external reviews and benchmarking exercises with market intelligence to remain competitive on best practices to provide to FP&A management for business leaders.
  • Understands and is conversant on the maintenance of the long-term financial model, informing the model owners on developments in the business, and is responsible for the integrity of data for the assigned business unit.
  • Conducts ad-hoc analysis for assigned business unit as required.
  • Participates in and contributes to materials for the Executive Leadership Team and the Board of Directors in collaboration with the rest of the FP&A team.
  • Prepares the annual Budget for business unit, challenging assumptions and proposing alternate solutions.
  • Taking a leadership role within the team, focuses on continuous improvement of budgeting and forecasting as well as reporting processes.
  • Supporting the rest of the FP&A team as needed.

 

Requirements:

  • A university degree in business, finance, mathematics, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of directly related, relevant work experience in a Finance function.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience developing and/or working with complex financial models.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles; preferably with CPA/international equivalent or CFA designation.
  • Positive mindset, energetic and strong desire to learn.
  • Excellent problem solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with anyone, both within finance and across the business.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to affect and implement change.
  • Ability to effectively summarize complex information.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure.

 

Additional/Desired Qualifications:

  • Budgeting experienc.
  • Experience using a planning & budgeting application, particularly Oracle EPBCS.
  • Experience using BI applications, particularly Power BI, and coding/programming skills.

 

Job Demands and/or Physical Requirements:

  • Periodic overtime to meet deadlines or accommodate time zone differences.
  • Availability via mobile device outside of office hours.

 

Compensation and Benefits package: 

Seaspan’s total compensation is based on our pay-for-performance philosophy that rewards team members who deliver on and demonstrate our high-performance culture. The hiring range for this position is $83,900 - $100,600 CAD per annum. The exact base salary offered will be commensurate with the incumbent’s experience, job-related skills and knowledge, and internal pay equity. In addition to base salary, we offer a competitive total rewards package which includes an annual performance-based bonus, a comprehensive benefits package (extended health, dental, life and disability insurance), retirement savings plan matching and other company-provided rewards.
